The “shabbiness” of St. Peter and the mission to not proselytize

A)  The text of the speech by J.M.Bergoglio:

And this faith of his did not disappoint: indeed, the nets filled with so many fish that they nearly broke (cf. v. 6). Facing this extraordinary event, the fishermen are greatly astonished. Simon Peter throws himself at Jesus’ feet, saying: “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord” (v. 8). That prodigious sign convinces him that Jesus is not only a formidable master whose word is true and powerful, but he is the Lord, he is the manifestation of God. For Peter this close presence brings about a strong sense of his own pettiness and unworthiness. From a human point of view, he thinks that there should be distance between the sinner and the Holy One. In truth, his very condition as a sinner requires that the Lord not distance Himself from him, in the same way that a doctor cannot distance himself from those who are sick. Jesus’ response to Simon Peter is reassuring and decisive: “Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men” (v. 10). Once again the fisherman of Galilee, placing his trust in this word, leaves everything and follows the one who has become his Lord and Master. Simon’s workmates, James and John, do the same. This is the logic that guides Jesus’ mission and the mission of the Church: go in search, “fish” for men and women, not to proselytize, but to restore full dignity and freedom to all, through the forgiveness of sins. This is the essential point of Christianity: to spread the free and regenerative love of God, with a welcoming and merciful attitude toward everyone, so that each person can encounter God’s tenderness and have the fullness of life. Here, in a particular way, I think of confessors: they are the first who must give the Father’s mercy, following Jesus’ example, as did the two holy Brothers, Fr Leopold and Padre Pio” (Angelus – Saint Peter’s Square – Sunday, 7 February 2016)

B) References to Scriptures:

And he said to them, ‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned” (Mar 16:15-16)

C) Comment:

Once again Bergoglio rages against God’s saints. After having denigrated John the Baptist (“he lived the darkness of a life burned into the error“; he has been made opposed to Jesus, he lived the inner torture of the doubt“) and after having debased the figure of King David (first defined “the corrupted that prophesies the humiliation of Jesus“, then “sinner, but holy“), it is now the turn of the first and true vicar of Christ: St. Peter.

It is not the first time that Bergoglio humbles the saints that are the supporting pillars of the Church of Christ. In the quoted episode, Bergoglio refers to the shabbiness and unworthiness feeling tried in the heart of Peter by being in the nearness of the Lord Jesus. Although it is understandable to feel unworthy, it is not at all acceptable to say that St. Peter feels miserable.

In front of the miraculous fishing, Peter moved by the Holy Spirit, recognizes the Work of God and bows before the Son of God. His words don’t reveal shabbiness, but reveal the greatness and the humility of that heart, that has recognized the Sign of God in Christ Man God.

The real shabbiness is to denigrate St. Peter, a great saint, the first and true Vicar of Christ on Earth. Bergoglio highlights a feeling that St. Peter does not prove, that does not exist, that is not reported by any gospel but that is invented by Bergoglio.

The other shabbiness is to continue to assert that the Church must not proselytize. On another occasion Bergoglio stated that “proselytizing is a solemn nonsense“! But proselytizing is wanted by Jesus, is taught by Jesus! So Bergoglio states that Jesus said a nonsense. But who says nonsenses, Jesus or Bergoglio?

Jesus told His apostles and disciples to go and preach the gospel to all the creatures so that all should be baptized. Who would have been baptized, would have been saved; who wouldn’t, would be lost. Then proselytizing means bringing the Gospel of Jesus to the whole world so that all the world may be converted and believe in Christ, the only Savior of the world.

Here it is that the Friends of Jesus, led by St. Peter, set out towards all people and to announce the Gospel, to make proselytes and announce the Salvation that only in Christ fulfils. They gave their lives for this announcement. Giving one’s life for Christ is the most important and the most noble thing that gives a meaning to one’s life. Far from nonsense!

But Bergoglio, in the Angelus, states that “the essential of Christianity is to spread the regenerating and gratuitous love of God“. But the only regenerating and gratuitous Love of God is Christ, the only true Love. And not a generic love that is at the base of the unique thought of the new religion of Bergoglio that wants to unite all the other ideas of religion in the name of a generic concept of love. That of Bergoglio is a ridiculous human philosophy that doesn’t centralize Christ, the only true Love that saves.

Now more than ever, true Christians must proselytize, to defend Christ and His teachings from the work of demolition that the ten kings, captained by Bergoglio, are carrying out.
