Bergoglio and the Mystery of the Cross – Part I

The Cross is a Mystery, since ever. The Cross, for us Catholic Christians, is the Mystery. The Cross that lights‑up the world, The Cross of death and resurrection, which gives eternal Life.

What happened that day, on and at the foot of the Cross is the highest point of the Mystery of the earthly life of the Man-God and of the Woman (of) God. Jesus and Mary, inextricably bound up with each other, from the beginning to the end. There is no Jesus without Mary, there is no Mary without Jesus. The Mystery of the Cross is the highest point of filial obedience of Jesus and Mary to the Father’s Project. Both called to redeem, by Their example of humility, docility and filial obedience, the rebellion to the Father’s Project by the first man (Adam), and the first woman (Eve) which, although created unblemished, with their disobedience and rebellion, have stained themselves and, at the same time, the Project of the Father.

The humility, docility and obedience on one side; the disobedience and rebellion on the other. Mary and Jesus that, with their obedience, redeem the disobedience caused by the one who for first rebelled to the Father: the angel of light, Lucifer, the mendacious, the rebel, the tempter, the accuser, the ancient serpent, Satan.

Jesus and Mary on one side; the one who attempts by deception, in a misleading way, in order to rebel to the Father, on the other side, in a clear and strong contrast, which marks the history of God. Jesus and Mary in order to demonstrate and give awareness of the essence and the substance of the Father; Satan and his children to deny and to make deny, through the rebellion of children, the Father’s Project.

Satan initially succeeds in his intent. By deception he leads to the rebellion and disobedience, first Eve and, through her, Adam. But God, the Omniscient and the Omnipotent, is not defeated by the treachery of His beloved creatures, even though they are cause of His infinite suffering. In His heart, God has already conceived Mary. Mary, the undefiled, the whole pure, the Immaculate, already Is. God knows Her since ever and God conceives Her before Time, so as to preserve Her from the original sin (of Adam and Eve) so that Mary can generate, in the history, the Son, the Man God, through the Holy Spirit. And in history, once made flesh, Mary and Jesus with Their example of Life, give life to the fulfilment of the promises of the Father.

So, what already was and always will be, at that moment of the Cross, is fulfilled. Jesus raised to be seen and believed by all; Mary to totality co-participate to the Mystery of the Son, and to give strength, with Her being Mother, to the Son, so that the Will of the Father is fulfilled in perfection. In the moment when the sword, preannounced by the prophet Simeon, transfixes and lacerates the soul of Mary, Mary participates in the fullest to the Mass of the Son for the salvation and redemption of humankind.

In that instant, before the eyes of those who are called to be the witness for eternity (John, the Apostle of Love, the one whom the Father has called to render his final witness in the Book of Revelation, the Apocalypse), the Father’s Project finds fulfilment: Jesus on the Cross, and Mary at the foot of the Cross.

The Mystery is fulfilled in perfection, without uncertainty, without doubt: Mystery of abandonment, Mystery of docility, Mystery of obedience, Mystery of total and absolute loyalty to the Will of the Father.

These are, in a nutshell, the teachings that Jesus and Mary, The Man and The Woman, on and at the foot of the Cross, in perfect and sublime conformity to the Will of the Father, transmit us for eternity.

The Mystery of the Cross is the Mystery of Loyalty and filial Obedience of Jesus and Mary, perfect and exemplary Obedience to the Father. The Mother and the Son renew and definitively sanction, in the Mystery of the Cross, Their eternal “yes” to the Father’s Project for the salvation of humanity.

However, after more than two thousand years from that time, the eternal Holy Friday, another man, who has authority over many people, in this regard first states that:

« The Gospel does not tell us anything: if she spoke a word or not… She was silent, but in her heart, how many things [she] told the Lord! ‘You, that day, this and the other that we read, you had told me that he would be great, you had told me that you would have given him the throne of David, his forefather, that he would have reigned forever and now I see him there!’ Our Lady was human! And perhaps she even had the desire to say: Lies! I was deceived! ». (J. M. Bergoglio, Santa Marta Homily, December 20th 2013).

Later, with reference again to that eternal moment of the Cross, Light of every Catholic Christian, that same man insinuates a doubt, the doubt, in the minds of those who hear and those who abandon themselves to him, saying even that «Jesus, when He complains – “Father, why have you forsaken me!” – blasphemes? The mystery is this».

Then, he concludes by saying: «So many times I have heard of people who are experiencing difficult situations, painful, that have lost much or that feel alone and abandoned and come to complain and ask these questions: Why? Why? They rebel against God. And I say: “Continue to pray in this way, because even this is a prayer” » (J. M. Bergoglio, homily in Santa Marta, September 30th 2014).

With all our strength and with all our vital energy, that God has given and gives us, to all this we shout loud:

NO! THE MYSTERY OF THE CROSS IS NOT THIS!

MARY NEVER THOUGHT SHE WAS DECEIVED!

JESUS NEVER BLASPHEMED AGAINST THE FATHER!

These words, uttered by Bergoglio, distort and empty the essence and substance of the Mystery of the offer made by Jesus and Mary to the Father.

These words do not represent the “Mystery”, but contradict the Mystery itself in the summit point of the gift of the life of Jesus and Mary to the Father and consequently to the whole humanity, that only thanks to this sacrifice offered in reparation for the rebellion and treason of Adam and Eve, can get back to live.

These words actually, in a deceitful and insidious manner, induce humankind to rebel against God, implying that both Mary and Jesus, feeling deceived and abandoned by the Father, in Their hearts rebelled against Him.

These words deny the essence of the sacrifice of Jesus and Mary for the salvation of humanity.

These words do not come from the Holy Spirit who is God, because they deny and they are the negation of the living presence of the God’s Spirit in Jesus and Mary. God’s Spirit, that is God, cannot deny Himself and His profuse action in the Mother and the Son for ever and ever.

Who has pronounced, who approves and who defends the substance of those words, with the sole purpose to pursue and to safeguard personal and particular interests, does not have the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God does not dwell in these persons. And if the Spirit of God does not dwell in them, what spirit dwell in them? There cannot be concomitance of spirits: or there is One or there is the other.

«And it is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is truth» (1 Jn 5,6b).

Well, those who yearn for the teachings of Jesus and Mary and want to defend the Truth of these teachings, to who have, and will have, they to obey? Only to the Spirit of God and His Dwelling: Mary, New Jerusalem.

In chorus, joined with the angels and the saints, with one only voice we want to sing and make hear to the whole world of good will, this sweet melody: «Offer, your life, like Mary at the foot of the Cross; and you will be a servant of every man, servant for love, priest of the humanity »
