“When Jesus complains, is He blaspheming? This is the mystery”

A)  The text of the speech by J.M.Bergoglio:

Jesus, when he complains – “Father, why have you forsaken me?”- blasphemes? The mystery is this”. The Pope confided that in his pastoral experience many times he encountered «people that are experiencing difficult and painful situations, that have lost a lot or that they feel alone and abandoned and come to complain and ask these questions: Why? They rebel against God». And his answer is: «Continue to pray in this way, because even this is a prayer». Just as it was that of Jesus when he said to the Father: «Why have you forsaken me?»” (morning meditation in the chapel of the DOMUS SANCTAE MARTHAE,  September 30 2014)

B) References to Scriptures:

‘Father,’ he said, ‘if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, let your will be done, not mine.’ ” (Luk 22:42)

Jesus cried out in a loud voice saying, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ With these words he breathed his last” (Luk 22:42)

C) Comment:

To insinuate the doubt that Jesus Christ had blasphemed the Father in the final moment in which Jesus manifested His total, perfect, loving filial obedience to the Father, is a very serious thing.

Christ has never rebelled against the Father, but He has always entrusted to the Father’s Will.

Only thinking and making people think that the conversation between the Man-God and the Father may be considered a rebellion, is the real blasphemy.

The Man‑God in the moment of His greatest pain, did not hesitate to put His Life and His spirit into the Father’s hands.

Bergoglio’s statement, although attenuated by the final question mark, is one of the most serious ever uttered by who, in so doing, shows himself in his true nature and intentions.
