“The Cross of Jesus expresses all the negative strength of evil”

A)  The text of the speech by J.M.Bergoglio:

The Cross of Jesus expresses both things: all the negative strength of evil, and all of the gentle omnipotence of God’s mercy” (Agelus, September 14, 2014)

B) References to Scriptures:

But as for me, it is out of the question that I should boast at all, except of the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (Gal 6:14)

The message of the cross is folly for those who are on the way to ruin, but for those of us who are on the road to salvation it is the power of God” (1Co 1:18)

Then, speaking to all, he said, ‘If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me’ ” (Luk 9:23)

C) Comment:

The Cross is the symbol of Christian faith. The Cross is not an expression of evil, as Bergoglio says, but is the expression of God’s supreme Goodness that is manifested in Christ, and that wins over evil. Once again the words of Bergoglio are in sharp contrast and misleading with respect to God’s Word.

Moreover, the concept enunciated by Bergoglio of “mild omnipotence” is misleading with respect to the key concept for all the Catholic Christians who believe in the full Omnipotence of God the Father.
