“There isn’t, even for those who believe, an absolute Truth”

A)  The text of the speech by J.M.Bergoglio:

There is sin, even for those who have no faith, when conscience is not followed. Listening to and obeying conscience means deciding in the face of what is understood to be good or evil. It is on the basis of this choice that the goodness or evil of our actions is determined”. ..….
“Secondly, you ask me whether it is erroneous or a sin to follow the line of thought which holds that there is no absolute, and therefore no absolute truth, but only a series of relative and subjective truths. To begin with, I would not speak about “absolute” truths, even for believers, in the sense that absolute is that which is disconnected and bereft of all relationship” (Letter to a not-believer, Bergoglio responds to Eugenio Scalfari, journalist of the newspaper “La Repubblica”,  September 4 2013)

«Each of us has a vision of good and of evil. We have to encourage people to move towards what they think is Good».
«………Everyone has his own idea of good and evil and must choose to follow the good and fight evil as he conceives them. That would be enough to make the world a better place»” (Dialogue with Eugenio Scalfari, journalist of the newspaper “La Repubblica”,  October 1 2013)

The Apostle Peter asks Christians to be prepared to “give an account” of their hope; it means that the truth on which we base our existence must be open to dialogue, to the difficulties that others show us, or that the circumstances present us. The truth is always “reasonable”, even if I am not so, and the challenge is to remain open to other’s point of view, without making an immobile totality of our beliefs.
… We can say without fear that we don’t have the truth, we don’t possess it: we meet it. In order to be desired, it must cease to be the one that you can own” (Bergoglio’s written, published on “La Repubblica” newspaper on March 13, 2014 with the title “Stop fundamentalisms and single mode of thought, the truth does not exist without dialogue” and based on the book “Beauty will educate the world” in the library from March 13, 2013 – ed. Italian Missionary Editor)

B) References to Scriptures:

Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him” (Joh 14:6-7)

C) Comment:

Christ is the Absolute Truth! Truth is Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

There is no other Truth besides Christ.

Christians possess the Truth: Christ. Christ who proclaimed Himself to be the Truth. Those who deny Christ Truth, are not from God.

Christians have already met the Truth, and do not have to search for it any longer. All they have to do is faithfully put His teachings in practice.

Truth is Christ, the Absolute Good is God that is manifested in Christ, Absolute Truth.
