“Do not worry, you have made a big mistake, yes, but do not worry”

A)  The text of the speech by J.M.Bergoglio:

We men .. «we are so nervous» and «when something does not go well, we yell and shout, we are impatient». But God comforts us: «Do not worry, you have made a big mistake, yes, but do not worry; fear not, I forgive you». And so he welcomes us in all, even with our mistakes, our sins. Just this is the meaning of what is repeated in the Psalm: «The Lord is merciful and great in love». Thus, he summed up the Pope, «we are small. He gave us everything. He only asks us for our miseries, our pettiness, our sins, to embrace and to caress us»” (Homily, Casa Santa Marta, December 10, 2015)

B) References to Scriptures:

After a while Jesus met him in the Temple and said, ‘Now you are well again, do not sin any more, or something worse may happen to you” (Joh 5:14)

‘Neither do I condemn you,’ said Jesus. ‘Go away, and from this moment sin no more’” (Joh 8:11)

C) Comment:

Jesus told the woman caught in adultery: “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more“. So He did not tell her not to worry but warned her: He told her to sin no more.

In another episode, Jesus was even more explicit: “Here you are healed; sin no more, lest something worse happen to you“. Then an even stronger warning. Because, still sinning, something worse could have happened.

With evil, with every form of evil, one cannot and should not rest easy: you have to be on guard, lest something worse could have happened.

Those who love their children, warn them in advance, even at the cost of being stern and to be not well accepted, because too rigid and intransigent.

Those who do not love their children, first leads them to underestimate the danger, to be then the first to accuse and condemn them, after making them believe the opposite.

That’s the deception, subtle and creeping, which numbs the conscience of God’s children, making them lower their guard in front of evil, to allow the evil to win their hearts.
