“The powerlessness of God”

A)  The text of the speech by J.M.Bergoglio:

“«Here it is, the “powerlessness” of God. We say that “God is powerful, can do everything!”. Except one thing: be detached from us!»” (Homily, Casa Santa Marta, October 29, 2015)

B) References to Scriptures:

When Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to him and said, ‘I am El Shaddai. Live in my presence, be perfect” (Gen 17:1)

So they seized him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?’ They answered, ‘He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to other tenants who will deliver the produce to him at the proper time’” (Mat 21:39-41)

And I tell you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob at the feast in the kingdom of Heaven; but the children of the kingdom will be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth’” (Mat 8:11-12)

C) Comment:

God is God, the Almighty Father. God can do everything.

Nobody, not even Bergoglio, can dare to say otherwise.
God can do everything and can also detach from men. If a human being refuses God, God does not force him to remain united to Him.
God granted freedom. God loves, always for first. But if a man refuses Him, God accepts the rejection, as has happened to many who have refused to believe in the Mystery of the salvation of Christ.

To understand this, it is sufficient to think of the first Covenant signed with the Jewish people. The Father had formed this Covenant to be eternal. God never stopped loving that people. But at a certain point, that people ceased to love God and arrived to betray God, denying the Father in His Son Jesus. At that point, God the Father detached from that people to forge a new Covenant with another people, with the children of Christ.

The history teaches this.

And so as in the past, it could always be for those who voluntarily betray the Father denying the action of His Holy Spirit in the history. These, seduced and animated by an evil spirit, which does not come from the Father but is from satan, the evil one, refuse and detach from the Father’s love.

The detachment never happens for the Will of God but for man’s will, to which the Father has granted, right from the beginning, the freedom to remain faithful to Him or to detach. And God, Father, Good and Fair, respects the will of man in the history, and acts in consequence, remaining united to those who want to remain united to Him and detaching from who voluntarily want to detach.

God is omnipotent and free. God will never submit to the blackmail of any man.
