“A Catholic God does not exist”

A)  The text of the speech by J.M.Bergoglio:

I believe in God, not in a Catholic God; a Catholic God does not exist, God exists” (Interviw by Scalfari to Bergoglio published on “Repubblica” 1st october 2013)

B) References to Scriptures:

And this a gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Mt 24,14)

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that a believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mc 16,15-16)

C) Comment:

Catholic means universal, namely for everyone. The Church of Christ is Christian (grounded on Christ) and Catholic (Christ’s message is universal, for everyone). Therefore, the message, that God gives us in His Son Christ, is universal, for everyone. In Christ, God manifests Himself as The God for everyone, the only God, that everyone must know and live. There is no other God besides Christ. In Christ, God is Catholic, in everyone, for everyone, with everyone.

To affirm, as Bergoglio did, that there is a generic God, means emptying God of His essence and of His substance, which is Christ.

To affirm this, means to believe in a vague and indefinite religion that is referring to a generic and indefinite God.

As legitimate as it may be, this thought is contrary to what is professed in the Catholic Christian Creed.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen
